Ferrara Candy History
Ferrara Candy began in 1908 when Italian immigrant Salvatore Ferrara opened a pastry and candy shop in Chicago’s Little Italy. Candy soon became more popular than the pastries, leading Ferrara to open its first dedicated candy factory in 1919. The company introduced Red Hots in 1932, Atomic Fireball in 1954, and Lemonhead in 1962. In 2012, Ferrara merged with Farley’s & Sathers Candy Company, adding brands such as Brach’s, Trolli, and Now and Later to its collection. Ferrara became affiliated with Ferrero in 2017, acquired more than 20 brands from Nestlé’s American confectionery business in 2018, and added Jelly Belly and Brazilian candy manufacturer Dori Alimentos in 2023. The company expanded again in 2025 by acquiring French candy and chocolate manufacturer Carambar & Co.
